Industrial networks:
the big four protocols, one map.

Every machine you'll ever touch speaks at least one fieldbus, and most plants speak four. This module is the map. It starts with why networks replaced wire bundles and how devices share one cable, then works out what determinism really means and what it costs. After that come the big four protocols compared honestly, the commissioning ritual, and reading diagnostics like a detective. The capstone is four real network-design decisions. There are six chapters, each with a live network for you to break.

The same four questions everywhere

🧭 Who talks when? How fast, how predictably? How do devices describe themselves? What happens when a wire breaks? Learn the questions once and every protocol becomes a set of answers.

Break things, read the evidence

🔍 Cut cables, load networks until they jitter, race packets, and grade your own protocol picks. Most network intuition comes from chasing faults, so here you get to cause them on purpose.

Vendor-neutral by design: PROFINET, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP and Modbus each get their honest strengths, weaknesses and native habitats, and CANopen gets its place below the Ethernet tier. The brand-specific depth lives in each platform's own academy lesson.
Pairs well with the Cybersecurity track (D2). Once your networks touch IT, that track stops being optional.
