Structured Text:
the language that scales.
Ladder logic is brilliant at what it was made for: relay-style interlocks an electrician can read on the wall. Ask it to do arithmetic, loop over an array, parse a recipe or run a twelve-state machine, though, and it turns into an unreadable maze of rungs. Structured Text (ST) is the high-level, Pascal-like IEC 61131-3 language built for that kind of work, with real expressions, IF and CASE, FOR/WHILE/REPEAT loops, arrays, strings and function calls. Much of the serious PLC code written today is ST. This module teaches ST the way it's written on the job: clean control flow, safe loops that respect the scan, real data handling, and the sharp corners (strings, time, pointers) that trip people up.
Code, not rungs
⌨️ rChange := (rSetpoint - rActual) * rGain; is one obvious line in ST and a small puzzle in ladder. For math, decisions and data, text wins. It also diffs, reviews and reuses like real software.
The scan still rules
🔁 ST gives you real loops, and with them real ways to hang the PLC. An unbounded WHILE can run forever in one scan and trip the watchdog. Text gives you more freedom, but the scan rules still apply, so this module teaches you to handle both.
